THACKERVILLE, Okla. The semifinals are set for the womens division at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship, where New Zealands Phillis Meti will look to defend her title.Meti, 30, finished fifth in open qualifying and defeated No. 4 seed Rebecca McGinley in the quarterfinals to advance. Shell face off with 2013 world champ Heather Manfredda in one of Wednesdays primetime semifinals after Manfredda knocked out top-ranked qualifier Chloe Garner.Metis best drive during quarterfinals went 350 yards, while Manfreddas longest shot went 341 yards.

The second semifinal will feature Swedens Sandra Carlborg against newcomer Alexis Belton. Carlborg is the highest-ranked player remaining and won four world championships from 2011-15, while the 24-year-old Belton is playing in her first-ever long drive event and topped Mile High Showdown winner Troy Mullins in Tuesdays quarterfinals.Carlborgs best quarterfinal shot went 353 yards, while Beltons 348-yard shot was enough to advance past Mullins.The semifinals will be head-to-head matches, with each player afforded eight shots within a three-minute window. The player with the longest single shot that remains in bounds will advance to the final where a champion will be crowned. Golf Channel coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET.Meti, Manfredda, Carlborg and Belton will also participate in a mixed team event Tuesday evening under the lights, where the winning two-person team will receive entry fees into select 2018 World Long Drive events.


This will be year #3 for this tournament. Many of my readers may remember last year's exciting finish when Shanshan Feng, in spite of bogeying 2 of the final 3 holes, held on to beat a charging Minjee Lee and Sung Hyung Park by a single stroke.
