Bent shaft takes Woods' 9-iron out of use on 8th hole

MEXICO CITY Seven holes before the four-putt that sank his third round, Tiger Woods bent his 9-iron around a tree while playing his second shot on the eighth hole at Club de Golf Chapultepec.Woods missed the fairway to the left off the tee and played his second shot standing next to and slightly behind one of the countless trees lining the fairways in Mexico City.He was able to hook his ball 166 yards up the right side of the hole, but lost the use of his 9-iron when he bent the shaft around the tree on his follow through.Woods immediately began examining the shaft to see if it had been damaged and determined that he would be unable to use the club for his remaining 10 holes.

He went on to bogey the hole. He later fought back with birdies at 11 and 13 and was 3 under on his round before going double bogey-bogey at No. 15 and 16 thanks to a four-putt and a three-putt, respectively.Although Woods declined to talk to the media after his Saturday 70, his caddie, Joe LaCava, confirmed that the shaft was bent and that the Woods camp will be working overnight to ensure it is repaired in time for Sundays final round.

I would just replace it with a new shaft. Most .370 iron shafts will fit a putter, depending on how the hosel is configured. A slight amount of heat until the epoxy loosens and you pull the old shaft and reshaft with a new iron shaft. If you need a special, bent shaft there should be some available through MALTBY or GOLFWORKS. Hope this helps.

Simply put, as long as the graphite shaft is not cracked or peeling and the steel shafts are not kinked or badly pitted or rusted, a player's golf clubs will last longer than a lifetime, though it is a commonly held misconception that the shaft will eventually wear out or suffer from fatigue to the point that it will no longer perform the same — which is only true if the shaft is damaged or

The bent part of the shaft fit into the hole, with the bent part just at the hole opening. Carefully figured out which way I wanted to bend it, put it into the vise, and put a piece of 1/2 pipe over the threads (to distribute the load to all of the threads). Wapped it with a big rubber mallet.

Put the bar in the vice and insert the pot on the hole. Press the pot home and hold while SLOWLY pulling the shaft with the tube. I have repaired a lot of mixer pots like this and you probably got an 80% chance as the shaft is brass as opposed to modern die cast which breaks more easily. Good luck

Your 5 iron should be a bit shorter in overall length. So the 7 wood probably should be 3-5 yards longer. Which club do you hit most consistent. I would take out the 5 iron and see if you need it during your next 3-4 rounds. If you feel you do then take out the 7 wood and do the same trial with that club.

Played today early in the morning. I was in a lie behind a tree. Had a clear opening for a perfect 8 iron shot into the green. I swung and my club clipped the tree and bent the steel shaft of the club. It was bent slightly to the side, so at adress, i had to move the ball about 1/4 inch back to get the club straight.
