Weather reduces LPGA's Kingsmill to 54 holes

For the second time in as many events, the LPGA has decided to reduce a tournament to fewer than 72 holes.Rain and thunderstorms have prompted multiple delays at this week's Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg, Virginia. Second-round play was suspended for the day at 1:04 p.m. Saturday, prompting the LPGA to also announce that the event will be shortened to 54 holes.

In Gee Chun leads at 11 under par following scores of 65-66. Approximately half the field has yet to complete the second round, and future forecasts don't look all that promising. Weather.com expects thunderstorms in the Williamsburg area Sunday afternoon with an 80 percent chance of rain.Two weeks ago, the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic was likewise plagued by inclement weather and downsized to just 36 holes. Sung Hyun Park won that event by one shot over Lindy Duncan.
